Things to do in Kippford
Kippford is a wonderful wee village nestled beside the river Urr estuary, as it flows into the Solway Firth. It’s well know for its quaintness and tranquillity. For visitors wondering what to do in the area, here are some of our recommendations (in no order of preference):
1. WALKS AND HIKING AROUND KIPPFORD
The area’s unique granitic landscape offers visitors the opportunity to hike and walk in areas of untouched natural beauty.
2. MOUNTAIN BIKING
The Solway Coast has some of the best mounting biking trails to be found in Scotland
3. GOLF COURSES
Kippford has its very own course, which you’ll see on the road into the village. It’s called Craigieknowes and whilst only 9 holes, it’s a handy wee course.
If you fancy something more challenging, there’s plenty more in Covend, Dalbeattie and Sandyhills.
4. HIRE A CLASSIC CAR!
Kippford boasts its very own classic car hire company. Kippford Classic Care Hire gives the option of Triumph Herald, Morris Minor and VW Camper on daily rates. A great way to explore the Solway Coast.
5. FISHING AND SAILING
Kippford’s marina and slipway is managed by The Solway Yacht Club, which has a temporary membership scheme for visiting dingy sailors and has excellent facilities. Further afield, you’ll find more sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and powerboating at Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken (about half an hour drive).
If fishing’s your thing, there are plenty of loch, rivers and pools in the area, as well as sea fishing off the jetties and beaches of Kippford.
